I am Courageous

I came across a tumblr photo that spelt out the words 'I am Courage(ous)' and it was as simple as that that gave me a little boost of encouragement when I read the words in my mind. I like it how just 3 words can so simply make me feel a little more confident about myself, so I hope maybe with this little painting of mine that you'll feel the same too.

I made myself a Facebook fan page called 'Julie's Little World', which showcases all of my water colour paintings, along with my growing collection of Little Julie's! :) So please do like my fan page if you're a small or big fan of my work! I know I'm still very much a beginner in the painting department, but it's a growing hobby of mine, and I believe this love affair is gonna stick around for a while!

Also, just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has liked my page so far! It really encourages me to keep going and working hard with my paintings :) You are all super stars!

Overcome your fears

This was one of my favourite quotes from the film - The Green Lantern - ft. the handsome Ryan Reynolds :) I didn't expect much from the film, especially since I had no idea what kind of super hero Green Lantern was! But I enjoyed it so much! His powers are just freaking cool, and his strength all comes down to how much he believes in himself. Sounds a little corny with how I just said it.. but yeah. :) Moral of this story, being fearless does not mean you are not scared of anything, it just means you have the ability to overcome your fears! <3

It was a beautiful Saturday afternoon and we gathered as a small group to celebrate Alice's 22nd birthday at the Royal Melbourne Botanic Gardens with a picnic :)

The weather was a little chilly, but the sun was still shining and it was so much fun to be with friends again, and to make the birthday girl smile the whole time (^____^) It's been so long since I've seen my friends, so this was exactly what I needed. It was just the nicest feeling, to not have to worry about anything except how in the world we were going to finish all the food we had all made for the day!

Kimu and Cat (with help with Tri and Juan, maybe) did a wonderful job with making platters and bowls of great and yummy food for all of us, like cute onigiri, pork/ham heartshaped goodness, truffles and cupcakes and more! On top of that, Alice and I made a sandwich platter each! Oh dear.. yes, we all had food babies by the end of our pig out session! The food was so good though :) Tri bough some bubbly drinks too! The best ever, felt so classy drinking from our plastic champagne cups!

Funny things happened while we were on our picnic, like Tri accidentally throwing Juan's frisbee into the pond nearby LOL smack right into the middle too LOL! The funniest happened next and that was Tri's attempt to rescue the toy, armed with plastic bag ugg boots and with us as his cheering squad on the side lines! XD Alice and Cat pumped up 'Eye of the Tiger' on the speakers while he trod into the pond LOL omg, epic moment, back ground music is the best :)

photo credit by moi, with Tri's camera! XD

There were birthday speeches made, which made us all feel a little emotional but it was of the good kind, and it was a very beautiful moment just listening words of appreciation and gratefulness exchanged with close friends :) I'm so happy for Tri and Alice for having each other, after all they've been through - they're such an inspiring couple <3

Before we know it, it was already 5 hours later and we had to get packing because it was getting dark real quick!! Cat and Juan had other engagements after our picnic >.< so it was just Tri, Alice, Kim and I left - and they kindly offered to drive me and Kim home :) which was great because we ended up hanging out at my house for the rest of the night till 1am!! It didn't matter that I had work the next day, it was so much fun (^____^) makes me smile so big just thinking about it!

I believe everyone did a great job with organising such an awesome day at the gardens :) It was very clear that Alice loved every moment of it!

Twenty more minutes till the 26th Sept but..

Happy 22nd Birthday Alice
Have a wonderful day dear :)

P.S. Kim and Tri uploaded more photos from the day on Facebook, and I couldn't help but steal some, so here they are! :)

Kigurumi Love

My little Julie character is dressed up in a kigurumi costume, which is a Japanese cozy costumes that are like pyjamas! :D Made of fleece, so they'd be extra warm to wear in bed on a cold night! I had a little obsession of it a couple of weeks ago and was very determined to own one one day! Haha, I even wanted to hold a Kigurumi sleep over for my birthday this year! (>_<) But yeah,  maybe not :P lmao! I still haven't decided on which one to buy though, so many cute animal ones!

While I was on a tumbring rampage for kigurumi photos (lol), I stumbled across an artist named: Melissa Haslam (her portfolio) - only because she completed a series of kigurumi based paintings, and they are absolutely beautiful, realistically enchanting!! At first sight, I thought they were real people, but on a closer observation, Haslam's detailing in her paintings is amazingly precise! Here are a few of my favourites:

Aren't they amazing? :)

When I was reading through her portfolio, I discovered that she's actually a Melbourne based artist! And she graduated from RMIT University with a Bachelor of Visual Arts! I don't know why but that struck me as so unbelievably inspirational. Can't help but want to become a post graduate at RMIT again for Visual Arts, once I've finished with Multimedia Systems :)

When I look at her paintings, it makes me feel an excitement about my future - hard to explain. I think I'm just very inspired by her work <3

Hayleh's Farewell

1. half of my outfit worn to Hayleh's farewell dinner   2. pretty earrings from Diva <3   3. my little painted board for Hayleh, to remind her to be brave while she's out and about in London   4. final instax photos with her :(

We had a farewell dinner for Halie - whom is off to London, UK, for 2 years to travel and work - on Monday night along Chapel Street at a Thai restaurant. It was a little odd to have such a dinner because I would have never imagined saying goodbye to Halie. I'm so proud of her for doing something different for herself, and making London her next location for new adventures!! I believe this is definitely what she needs. She's been working at Times Cafe for the past 5 years, she's been a part of my Melbourne life from the very beginning - and I'm going to miss her so much :(

She came into work today for about 15 minutes and yes, no doubt, waterworks came about and everyone was just a little downhearted knowing we won't be seeing our loud, funny, crazy and extremely caring friend till 2 years are up. Sigh :( I don't even think I've fully registered that she's leaving.. I really do hope she'll have an amazing time over in the UK and makes herself a home while she's away. Sure hope London is ready for her!! :)
