Happy & Stressed Jumping Beans

1. A mini little Julie painting that I made for myself on a night I felt quite unmotivated to complete of my uni work >.<  2. A commission order for a lovely miss in Sydney  3. A commission order from a mother to her son, who loves Dibo the Dragon :) 4. For all the coffee addicts that go to my family's cafe every morning, something to brighten up their early morning!

(for more photos of what's been happening in my little world lately, click here)

***
Soooooo I've been very bad at keeping my little blog up to date with what's been happening lately (>.<)  It's been a little hectic with things reaching their d-day, quicker than I would have liked! My final uni presentation will be June 19th, and that'd be it, forever, for my uni days! So I've got my fingers crossed that I'll pass and be able to graduate by the end of this year :) Also been kept busy with custom painting orders too, which is fantastic! I'm made to face a new challenge with every order, and have the privilege to converse with new people who are so lovely! I honestly do love my customers so far :) Thank you for being understanding with all the limited time that I have due to uni work and supportive of my efforts <3 I'm in the process of completing my last few orders, so looking forward to seeing the finished product! :D My little online shop is closed atm for custom orders, but I'm really looking forward to re-opening on June 25th and meeting new challenges! :D YAY!

A lot will be happening this week besides uni work! Hopefully I can go to life drawing @ No Vacancy Gallery and chill after a stressful day at uni on Tuesday night :) I'll also be looking into checking out Secret Walls for Melbourne this Wednesday night as well! It's a battle between artists and their ability to create art on a massive white wall with only black paint and black markers! :D And what I'm looking forward to most is that a group of friends and I have signed up for the final session of Pop M'art this coming Saturday June 2nd at the Transit Lounge @ Fed Square! I'M SO EXCITED! It'll definitely be a great way to start the weekend after a stressful week that I'm foreseeing right now!

Sigh, wish I could stay and continue rambling for a few more essays, but I'll best return to my uni work :( so I guess this will just be a lil quick update to show that I'm still alive and giddy with happy and stressed beans jumping inside of me :) haha that doesn't even make sense! Anyway, I'm going to try this keeping my blog up to date regularly one more time :) It's been so long that I've forgotten how nice it feels to just type and ramble on my blog! I'll be back for sure.

Keep smiling & keep yourselves warm because Winter is definitely coming :)

Love, from Julie xox

P.S. Good luck to all those undergoing exams and final assessments!
Holidays are just around the corner! :D

I am a Stressball

So, as always, I've been a little stress ball lately (maybe more than just a little..) and it's probably because I've put too much on my own plate that I could handle. (x_x) I have always been a little over ambitious and I couldn't help but get a little excited with all these art projects that I signed up for. However I didn't really consider that I do have my big uni project to take care of, along with juggling working at cafe, along with my online shop... (=_=) so.. yeah. I'm sorry if I've been MIA lately, but this is pretty much why. (the ultimate sadface) :( I've been wanting to blog more because a lot has been happening lately but.. (oh no more excuses please!! >_<)
So now, it's time to shine, it's time for action, it's time for magic to happen! I got to get my act together, and start finishing off what I've started. I know I've got it in me, even if it means many sleepless nights for the rest of the month, I got this! Just gotta remember to breathe, to focus and to just do it! I've got to do what I can today for a better tomorrow.

***
I'm not sure about you but I usually thank my past self when I actually take time to organise things the night before i.e. pack my bag, figure out what to wear and have it all laid out, ready for the next day >.< I gotta get back into that habit and stop sleeping in already @_@ my memory has been really bad lately too :( I'm not sure how to explain why, but it makes me stress even a lil when I can't remember the smallest and most insignificant things! So silly really.

So I haven't posted for a couple of weeks but I've got a lot of photos that I would love to share with you guys with what's been happening lately (^_^) but I think I'll have to spread out the love though for the next few posts, otherwise this will just be a major blog post and I'm running low on time atm (>_<)

Pop M'Art Event - Saturday 1st April
Here are photos taken by the Pop M'Art crew & Truccie on the day (^_^)

As I mentioned it in my last blog post, my friends and I were part of this event (happens every weekend) called Pop M'Art and it was SO MUCH FUN when the painting started! Two hours was actually a fair long time to paint something, even thought I thought I was running out of time @_@ but working with acrylics was a nice break away from water colours, however I did take advantage of the water to help paint my opaque buildings :)

I ended up calling my painting: Paper Dreams - as the airplanes represent dreams circling the city buildings. They might seem fragile and weak on their own, but they have the ability to be moved by the passion and determination of the dreamer. They have the strength to go far :)

We were lucky enough to have the Pop M'Art held at Rooftop Bar (along Swanston St) that weekend, so it was just so lovely being out in the wide open and above everything else for a while. However, like my friend Elli has stated it in her blog post, it was definitely like extreme painting while on the rooftop, since it was so windy, despite the blue skies! LOL Half the time we were holding onto our easel and canvases for dear life, trying to avoid it being knocked over >.< Once the two hours was up, it was great to see what everyone ended up painting, and there was so much variety!! :D (check out the photo above!) So much talent, I freaking love it man!!

The crew who directs Pop M'Art are such lovely and vibrant people, and they were fun to talk to after we finished our paintings! Looking forward to hearing from them again about the art installation they want to do with our paintings! :D We even had mini interviews to discuss our painting (@_@) which was a little nerve wrecking for everyone hahaha! When I'm put on the spot like that, I usually ramble my head off, and then think... crap, what did I just say?! (=_=)

Great thanks to Truccie who organised the whole event for us to join in on the fun!! I'm so happy to have been part of it. I remember leaving the city that day feeling so fulfilled and just calm. I spent the rest of the afternoon with a few stage fright people, chilling on the Rooftop bar and stuffing our faces with massive hamburgers :) nom! I really could just nap up there if it wasn't so weird and packed with people hahaha!

I recommend everyone to check out Pop M'Art and be part of it before they finish! :D
Even if you're not much of a painter, or never painted before, it's such a fun experience!

***

Okay! Best to rush off now and get more things done! Got this adrenaline running, even though I'm super tired (>.<) better make the most of it before it runs out and I just drop dead snoring in my bed! haha hope everyone will have a lovely week ahead of them, and take advantage of the beautiful weather during their lunch breaks :)

Keep a smile on your dial! :D

Love, from Julie xox

P.S. I just want to say a quick thank you for people who still stop by my blog and leave comments (^___^) means so much to me when I still get visitors, even when I've been so inactive lately! And hello hello to my few new followers! :D so happy to have you join in on the low down for my lil adventures! (haha I just sounded a lil gangster there...)

I'm Not Giving Up!

So I just did a little painting to motivate myself since I've been feeling like a little stressball lately (>.<) The past week has just been hectic, and not as productive as I would have liked with uni and shop work. But happy to say, even though this day started out rough, it became a very productive night with my painting orders :) So I'm feeling that little warm fuzzy feeling inside of me again, that lets me know that I'll be alright as long as I refuse to give up and give in to all the work that's got to be done! (rah rah rah!!)

***

So what's been happening lately?
I think it'll be better if I just show you photos rather than ramble on with the details (^_^)

1. First page of my sketch book project for Art House Co Op. :) finally getting some where with this project!!  2+3. Photos from DanTay's 25th Birthday - themed classic 50/60's (^__^) these were photos taken from his photo booth set up! :D 4. One of my paintings that I recently just finished :)  5. Instax snaps from the night I caught up with the ol' time uni ppl for Malaysian Food and Coffee (^__^) So good to see them all again!!  6. Jiji being so cute! She's grown to be so big and chubby since we bought her in early Feb >.<  7+8. Boon's photos from the night we went karaoke with the Stage Fright Crew! :D Lol at how Viet-My got so drunk :P  9. Ice cream cubes from Tom Turtle from the night we watched HUNGER GAMES (whoop whoop, loved it) :) Yosh... it's only ice cream in cubes, but it was still a fun experience to choose from all the flavours ^_^  10. Paper planes for my sketch book project :)

I'm also missing out on quite a few photos from other outings (>.<)

***
(via tumblr)

So... who's watched the HUNGER GAMES?! :D

I watched it last Saturday with a group of friends on xTremeeeeeee screen (^__^) and I'm pretty satisfied with the outcome of the film! Even though, yes, the film did miss out on quite a few details from the book (that's always a given), but they also added more to the story as well, which excited me in my seat while I was watching! :D Very much looking forward to watching the 2nd film in the trilogy (>_<) That's definitely my favourite book in the series! I still need to finish book 3... everyone who's started reading the series has already finished it before me (=__=) hahaha slow down people! :P

Btw... I'm a Peeta fan ;)

***

Alright, now it's time for bed, here's to trying to fix my radical sleeping pattern :)
It's my day off tomorrow, so I'll be working hard on my painting orders! I'll do my best not to forget my uni work amongst all that (=_=) sigh. Priorities, priorities...

Keep smiling everyone! :) Hope you're having a nice week so far!

Love, from Julie xox

P.S. This weekend I'll be part of the Pop'M'Art (Pop Up Movable Art) with my friends! :D Thanks to Truccie to introducing it to us and for organising a group booking for this Saturday! It's basically an arty event that happens every weekend, where you meet at a secret location and for 2 hours, you paint upon a 12"x16" canvas, you can paint whatever you like! - once the 2 hours are up, you hand in your work, and it'll be made one of the building blocks of an art installation, made to represent Melbourne!!!

I'M MEGA EXCITED (^____^)

Life Has No Limitations

1. One of my favourite cards that I painted, to be sold from my little stall at STAGE FRIGHT - 25th Feb :) lil sneak peak!  2. My little Julie painting for my business card, to be printed soon thanks to my lovely friend Cat (from khatsii's adventures ) for my birthday present (^____^)  3. My first commission painting for 2012, and actually my first customer who wasn't connected to any of my friends or family! :D I hope the birthday girl that this was intended for liked it!  4. A commission memory board created for Anna's boyfriend, Paul - to be put up in his new apartment :)

***

Aiiyah! It's been a really packed week since I've returned to Melbourne (>__<)" hence explains my lack of blogging.. I feel so sad :( but at least I know I'm getting a lot of work done that I can be proud of! :) Back to work = early hours, longer days and less sleep!

**STAGE FRIGHT!!**

I've also been kept busy with a lot of STAGE FRIGHT business, with 3 scheduled meetings this week. I'd like to say we got a lot done, and I was really happy to see my fellow creative team members again :)

Last night was the first time meeting the first group of artists and stall holders of Stage Fright - where terms and conditions were explained. It was a little nerve wrecking but pretty exciting to finally be able to talk to some of them face to face! I've also been collecting a lot of artwork and handicrafts from talented artists - which is all being donated to the hampers, raffled off to raise funds for Stage Fright! :) I'll be updating the latest advertisement soon!

Free tomorrow morning?
If you're a Melbournian, come along to the Camberwell Markets on Sunday to support our Stage Fright performers, who will be busking to raise funds (^__^) Look out for this sign!

Your change may be small, but it will make a big difference for us for Stage Fright! :)

***

I've recently started to watch Charmed again, and I'm still very much in love with watching it! Even though now that I'm older, all these villains and warlocks do look ohso lame, and their spells are pretty tacky! Haha, but still good! My cousin gave me all 8 seasons :) So if you can't reach me late at night.. this will be why lol!

Alrighty, expect another post from me soon about my Chinese New Years with my family (^_^) I just gotta head to bed now because of work tomorrow morning @ 8AM! With the Australian Open happening at the moment, the cafe has been super busy non-stop (>.<)

Love, from Julie xox

P.S. I didn't really make new years resolutions for 2012, but I will for the Chinese New Year of the Dragon..time to make some changes around here for better things to come!

Time waits for no one..

Time waits for no one, so don't let it pass you by <3

This quote was inspired by the Japanese anime movie: The Girl who Leapt Through Time - where it's basically about her time travelling and not really appreciating the time that's been given to her as second chances. It reminds me that time is now, it never stops, it keeps on ticking, and yes, there is a time and place to be sad, but good things are bound to come along your way if you just don't stop. You gotta remember what's important.

***

It's been a while since I did a little julie post (>.<) but I can assure you that plenty will be coming along it's way - because it has been a busy couple of weeks for me to start off 2012 :) I'm sorry for my lack of posting, but I've been away in Adelaide for a little while - getting to catch up with a few friends and hang out with my awesome cousins - along with working on my paintings for the Stage Fright Event to sell (^__^) I'm really excited to show you guys what I've been up to lately, but good things will have to wait for now because it's 1:30AM as I'm typing this, and it's back to work for me tomorrow morning @ 8:30AM :( boo!!! But I seriously do need the moolah, due to my silly spending habits over the summer holidays (>___<)""

Hope everyone had an awesome new years eve, and rocking out so far in 2012 :)
We're over 2 weeks in already?! How fast does time fly?! (>__<)"

Have a great week everyone, whether you're back to work or not!

Part two of Cat's birthday present (^_^) I can't wait to see it hanging on your wall, so happy you love it man! :D don't miss my essay on the back! haha  4. A birthday gift for Aaron's little cousin Natalie's birthday <3 Can't wait for her to see it :)

Just a quick blog to say ...

HAPPY NEW YEAR FOR 2012!! :)

This year has passed so quickly and a lot has happened, but I'm happy where I am today :) I can't wait for the future, especially for Julie's Little World and for Stage Fright!! I'll definitely be graduating next year, one way or another, and I'll be striving to make things happen for myself! Aja aja fighting yo!!

I wish everyone the best new year's eve, and I hope your 2012 will start with a bang bang! :D Thank you to all of my loved ones for your support for the past year, and for all you fellow bloggers for supporting my work and my blog :) It truly encourages me to keep going!

In my little world lately...

1.  I Am Courageous - a Little Julie commission painting for one of Zoe's friends :)  2. Graduation gifts that I made for my friends, where they can slip in an instax photo in (kind of like a mini memory board ^_^)  3. Love doesn't make the world go round .. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile - a couple of A3 sized commission paintings for Lilah's friend for Christmas :) I hope her friend will like it!! The first one is the two of them relaxing on a beach, and the second one is the two of them enjoying a roller coaster ride (^__^)  4. Sometimes I just wanna touch the stars - a Little Julie commission painting for Zoe's sister :)  5. This is my favourite one out of all of my commission paintings lately <3

***

So these paintings are my latest accomplishments for my little painting business :) These are made as Christmas orders for the girls at work! So I was on a tight schedule to make sure they're all finished and framed up by last Tuesday night (>_<) because the cafe closes for the holidays on Wednesday! And it didn't really help that I was sick hahaha! Oh well, the girls were so happy with their paintings :) And I have my fingers crossed that the recipients of these paintings will be too!

Even though these are done, I still have a list of paintings I must finish before 2011 ends (>_<) So I best get right on it! It's Christmas day at the moment, and so far I've just been at home, and watched some Bob the Builder Christmas special on TV while eating my brunch hahaha :P how exciting!

I hope everyone's having
a lovely Christmas Day so far!
Let's hope it won't be major storms in Melbourne tonight.. though the skies do look grey and cloudy (-_-) stupid melbourne weather! *shakes fists*

Framed, delivered, I'm yours!

1. Commission painting for my sister Anna, made for her best friend Tran, along with her favourite quote about friendship (^-^)  2. Another commission painting for Anna, for another of her best friends, Jenny - who had just opened up her own pharmacy! So Anna thought it'd be nice to have a nice painting for her to hang up in her store :)  3. Stamped doilies :)  4. A funny requested commission painting for one of friends, along with their two favourite cartoon characters, GTO and Shin chan!! (^0^) They're all so mischievous! haha!

***

Another weekend is here! :)

Seriously, these weeks are just flying by too fast! 2012 is nearly at our doorsteps! But before that comes around, Christmas is near, and I've started a list of my christmas gifts for my loved ones (>.<) tricky stuff, but I hope it won't come down to last minute gifts, that's the worst, looking for gifts at the busiest time of the year for the shops (T__T)" I got told off for walking too slow this one time.. cranky lady!

Anyway, I'm not working this weekend, and that's just so peachy! :D The girls at the cafe offered to work for me, so I could have it off - which is super awesome of them, thank you so much Lilah and Noy! (^0^) this way, I'll be able to sleep in for the next two days :) oh how I miss sleeping in <3 I'll also have more time to just paint (>.<) finished my cousin's birthday present last night :)

Welp, this is just a quick post, I wanna return to more Studio Ghibli films and what not (^-^) *sigh* wish I was able to just relax in a pool, that would have been the best today since it was so freaking hot in the cafe (~___~) and now it's stormy outside, wth Melbourne!!?

Have a great weekend everyone! :)

Resist Nothing!

This painting was for my first customer's order - fulfilled and delivered today! :)

I guess it's safe to reveal who my first customer was since the painting has been given to her friend already (^-^) It was Phuong! and she called me up over a month ago asking if I could paint her good friend, Viet-My, a painting that would lift up her spirits. She noted that the words - "Resist Nothing" - is Viet-My's favourite saying. I was a little slow on understanding what it meant, but Phuong helped me along the way. She gave me a handful of ideas of where I could start off illustrating the concept of 'Resist Nothing'.

It basically means, go with the flow, set yourself free from trivial matters so that the bigger picture of life can be appreciated more. The more I worked on the idea, the more I grew to like the idea of 'Resist Nothing'. Whenever I would think about those two words put together, I could feel a small feeling of empowerment growing inside me, giving me confidence that I'll be just fine if I were to allow things to just be, and keep moving forward. There's no need to make a fuss over small matters right? :) Just let it roll off your shoulders and appreciate how great it feels to not carry such an unnecessarily heavy burden on yourself everyday. Life's too short!

In the painting, Viet-My is happily falling with her arms up high, not caring wherever the wind may take her through life. A flock of birds accompany her through her free falling because what represents freedom more than seeing birds flying free through the blue skies?

This commissioned painting was definitely a challenge, because there were so many ways in which the concept could be drawn out.  It was tough, but I'm really proud of the outcome, and I'm really happy that Phuong and Viet-My were very pleased with it too! :D I didn't think that when I was delivering Phuong's painting today that I'd be there when she gives it to Viet-My! Yup.. I was definitely nervous (>_<)" but she was happy with it! Phew* :)

Btw, Viet-My is a freaking awesome digital illustrator!

If you have time, check out her deviant page (ravenskar) for her wonderful and intriguing illustrations! You'd be blown away, I promise you! Was definitely inspired by her work. It's impossible not to be :)

& Thank you again Phuong for giving me this opportunity! :)
Definitely pushed my boundaries with this one! Now I'm excited for my future paintings :D

***

It just struck midnight, and my tummy is just rumbling and grumbling like a washing machine.. (=_=)" but I should definitely hit the hay early tonight. Been sleeping at 2am or later lately, and it's kind of messing up my sleeping pattern lol, and I'm just exhausted when I go to work too! How silly of me!

Well I guess one of the reasons why I've been staying up so late is due to me really getting into setting up my online shop for Julie's Little World. :) When I think about it normally, it's nerve-wrecking, my mind is just buzzing with ideas and I can't believe that I'm actually going ahead with this! But when it comes down to it, this nerve-wrecking feeling, I believe it's actually excitement and it's exactly that that's feeding me the strength to continue with this new adventure!

I'm aiming to have it opened by the end of this year, ready for the new year 2012! :)

And also in the meantime, I'll be kept busy with more commission painting orders that have come in this week (>.<) Ohhh.. *big smile!* I can't help but smile, knowing that this is really happening! (>_<) Rah, I'm a little goofy like that haha!

Alright, enough of my rambling.. as per usual! Time for me to get some rest! Hope everyone is having a good week so far! Seriously, the weather in Melbourne has been so emotional lately lol (-__-) I just hope this Saturday will be a beautiful day for my sister's wedding! (oh yeah, the train for my dress is gone now, it's so much easier to walk in :))

Love, from Julie xox

P.S. If you're living in Melbourne and you've got hidden talents in music/arts/creative arts or any art you can think of!!, take some time to check out this wonderful event (link below) that my friend Phuong, Viet-My and a few other of her friends is organising for next year in February!

February 18th 2012
Cross Culture Church (Swanston Street)

Cute name ay? I'm definitely going to be a part of it! (^-^) I'm actually very excited about this! It's basically a festival day that artists anywhere can showcase their talents to boost their confidence in themselves, and to allow the community to learn more about them. Any money that we've raised for the day will be going towards charity :) Everyone is welcome to be a part of this event!

Let's get over our stage fright together, shall we? :)

Less than a week away from my sister's wedding!

Time's just flying by now, and the first wedding in our family is fast approaching. It's this upcoming Saturday for crying out loud! XD I'm excited, and yet all over the place feeling unprepared still i.e. what make up I should do, what earrings to wear, how will I do my hair?!

Maybe you girls can help me out :) My dress for the night will be silver/grey, and it's a longggggg one! My first ever long gown dress (^-^) Here are some photos!

I'm pairing this dress with some black heels that I bought on sale from Forever New a couple of nights ago! :) But really, it doesn't matter what shoes I'll be wearing since they'll be well hidden under all this!! You can tell from my 2nd photo that there's a massive train going on there LOL, looks like I'm the one getting married lmao, but sad story, my mum will be cutting it off when she's altering the dress to be shorter (coz I'm a lil shortie :)) - oh well! it would be majorly difficult to walk around like a normal person with a massive train behind me LOL. My brother didn't want to be the one to follow me all night, and hold it up for me :( no love.

And I guess the wedding prep is finally coming together! Not so much drama anymore for the past week, so it's all good! Anna, Quang and I started putting up decorations around the house for the morning tea ceremony :) Anna found these awesome tissue paper puff balls, that we had to assemble and puff ourselves, to hang around the house! They're actually really easy to make if you've got enough tissue paper! :D Don't you just love them?! They seriously remind me of the scrubbing thing you use to wash your body lmao x) We'll also be sticking on red flowers all over the staircase :) These are all great ideas from Anna, good work man! :D

Hehe, my mum just came into my room asking what shoes should she wear!  XD and went through my lil heel collection :P so cute haha XD

***

On other news! :)

I've recently completed a painting order for one of my good friends, Sarah, to be used for her xdollhouse blog! She asked me to create a little doll character for her blog header as it'd suit her site's name. It was a lot of fun for me since I'm not really accustomed to drawing dolls, but I am with drawing chibi characters! I'm pretty happy with how it turned out after finishing :) hehe, I added Tony Tony Chopper from One Piece because I know she's a fan of One Piece, I mean seriously, check out her car! XD I'm a big fan of Chopper too! So anyway, I thought it was very appropriate to have him as a little toy as part of the painting :) I love adding personal touches to my paintings.

Check out Sarah's blog :D

Thank you again Sarah for this opportunity and for being such an easy going customer (^_^)
It was my pleasure being able to paint for you! Muah xox

***

I'm actually up to date with my commission orders :) And I'd just love to post up my photos of them, but I won't until their intended purpose (i.e. given to the friend I painted for) is fulfilled! I wouldn't want to be the one to ruin a surprise gift :)

You know what my favourite part is when I do an order? It's the moment when I can place my painting into a frame that just compliments it <3 I feel quite accomplished when I see my paintings in pretty frames :) That's probably why my room is currently filled up with a bajillion photo frames at the moment... (=_=) I might have gone a little overboard with the frame shopping... but it's only because I've got purposes for them now! :D And I'm excited to when I can fill them all up and find them good homes (^____^)

Alrighty then! this was a major update with images galore! Just so much has been happening lately, and it's a little hard to keep up and have energy to blog about it >.< Next 5 days will be working, and then BAM wedding time! :D Can't wait to see my cousins again from Adelaide too!

Hope everyone's having a lovely weekend so far, and got plenty of study done if you're under going exam revision! Make it count and good luck for your exams! :)

Love, from Julie xox

P.S. My 22nd birthday was the best ever because I was just spoilt rotten with love from all my family and friends, from Adelaide and Melbourne (>_<) Definitely felt the love that day and well worth the wait all year long because you're reminded in an overwhelming wave of gratitude on how important you in everyone's lives. Even if it just lasted for a day, how everyone made me felt, I can still feel it now just by thinking about it :) Thank you guys <3

(hehe okay, I'll stop with my essay writing! :D)
